Heritage means future.

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Borgward was born on November 10th, 1890 in Hamburg. Borgward, already as a small child fascinated by the automotive industry, had set itself a target: building cars. Consistently he pursued his way, although one could hardly finance even its formation in the higher mechanical engineering school.

Even though and against all difficulties Borgward has been founder and owner of three companies of the "Borgward Group" (Borgward, Goliath and Lloyd). His ideas, his inventions and his cars (see portfolio) are still famous and important milestones for the history and heritage of the international automotive industry.

With Models such as the Hansa 1500 or the famous Isabella, Borgward changed the car landscape forever. Borgward in 1960 has been one of the leading German car manufacturers known for quality, elegance and as a brand of innovations, which moved the automotive industry like the Hansa 1500: the first car to be sold with an automatic transmission in Germany.

The first legendary "Isabella" left the moving-belt in June 1954. The "Big Borgward" (P100) had an avant-garde air suspension, it was one of Borgward‘s most advanced cars.

Carl F. W. Borgward has written Automotive History. We are very proud about his lifetime achievement and committed to carry his values and heritage into the future.
